Power bank limitations on Cebu Pacific flights
Curious about power bank limitations on your flight? Here's what you need to know to ensure a safe journey.
Overview
Description
To ensure your safety and comfort and to prevent potential issues with lithium battery-powered devices and power banks, Cebu Pacific is implementing limitations on the carriage and usage of power banks on all flights. This aligns with the updated regulations by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP).
Power bank limitations
Passengers are allowed to bring power banks as a hand-carry item but are prohibited from being used inflight. Please ensure that your power bank is within the following limits so that you can bring it without prior approval:
- Lithium-ion batteries: Up to 100Wh.
- To determine the watt-hour (Wh) rating of a power bank, use formula:
- Wh = (mAh × Voltage) / 1000
- For reference:
- A 20,000 mAh power bank at 3.7V = 74Wh
- A 20,000 mAh power bank at 5V = 100Wh
- To determine the watt-hour (Wh) rating of a power bank, use formula:
- Lithium metal batteries: Up to 2g of lithium content per cell battery.
💡If you plan to bring a power bank with a capacity between 100Wh and 160Wh, please request approval at the check-in counter.
Carriage of Power banks
- Packaging: Spare/loose lithium batteries, including power banks, must be individually packed to prevent short circuits. To do this, please:
- Tape over the exposed battery terminals using electrical tape; or
- Place each battery in their original packaging; or
- Place each battery in a separate plastic bag, zip lock, or protective pouch.
- Carriage: Spare/loose batteries including power banks must be kept in your pocket or in the seat pocket in front you. These cannot be kept in your hand-carry baggage and cannot be stowed in the overhead bin or under the seat.
Reminders:
- Damaged, defective, or recalled (DRR) lithium batteries are strictly prohibited for air transport. These batteries may show signs of physical or mechanical damage, such as:
- Swelling, relative to the same battery in its original state;
- Discoloration of battery casing;
- Smell or corrosion;
- Loose or damaged wires; and
- Known conditions of use or misuse.
- Lithium-battery powered devices and power banks must not be dropped, exposed to pressure, crushed, compressed, and subjected to excessive heat or anything else that can trigger ignition.
